Thanks for the comment Mike. This is an issue that I'm just starting to understand and I'm realizing the magnitude of the problem. The part of the video where Jamie was asking kids to identify the fruits and vegetables (and they could not) was shocking to say the least. Also stunning was the fact that life expectancy is decreasing for the first time ever. That is HUGE.

Over the past few years, I've been much more aware of what I put in my body and I prefer food that I've cooked from scratch. I have a long way to go, but I've increased my awareness and taken steps to modify my diet to eliminate the majority of the junk that is out there. I continue to learn and modify my own behavior, and I hope to play a bigger part in helping others understand the issues around food as well.

I look forward to connecting with you in person. It sounds like we are well aligned and can really propel this message if we put our heads together.

Thanks again Mike!

I have always been a fan of Jamie Oliver and his way of presenting cooking in a very approachable manner. He has done a great job getting to the root of many of the food issues here in the US and providing a solution (wish) that will create tremendous good if it gains enough momentum. Kids (and most parents) have lost touch with their food. They don't know who grew it, how it was grown, and do not know how to cook basic meals with fresh ingredients.

We now share a common goal in life...to ensure that healthy, local foods play a larger role in everyone's life (especially children).

My company, Rationally Creative, ties directly into this as my work with Georgia Organics, Farmer D Organics, and the Alpharetta Community Garden helps to promote everything from local organic farmers and home gardeners to farm-to-school and school garden initiatives.

This is a great movie being shown on Planet green. We have to teach our children to be healthy.
http://www.whatsonyourplateproject.org/

Thanks for the note Doris. I think it's really important what you are doing - we need to be promoting sensible eating to everyone in this country. We can learn a lot from your culture of eating fresh ingredients from the kitchen garden. Perhaps this is something we can talk about in more detail when we meet up. Thanks again!

Hey Brandon!
I absolutely loved listening and reading this! One of my new years resolution was to "be kind to my body and environment". I come from a back ground where cooking is the norm and almost every home has a "kitchen garden" where we harvest what we are having for dinner just a few hours before eating. It breaks my heart that we are so easy to adopt "new ways" canned food and fast food when we come to the US. In the past year I have made a conscious effort to teach refugees (New Americans) the importance of embracing their "fresh food culture" and the dangers of fast food.

On another note, a good friend of mine invited me to dinner to a neat little place http://lovinghut.us/. I am not vegan but I really really enjoyed the food and the philosophy behind it!

Check it out!
